Karen Oberthaler, VMD

Diplomate American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)

Dr. Karen Oberthaler obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.  She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2002. She then completed a one-year rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York in 2003.

Dr. Oberthaler then returned to the University of Pennsylvania for medical oncology training and completed her residency in July 2006. During her residency, she conducted research on feline and canine lymphoma and on the chemopreventative properties of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Her clinical interests include lymphoma, osteosarcoma, mast cell tumors, hemangiosarcoma, and bladder cancer.  Additionally, she is interested in cancer prevention and palliative care.

Dr. Oberthaler is board-certified in Oncology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
